Proposed issue for “Malaria Eradication” Campaign 1962

Set of three different stamps (33ch, 70ch and 1.30NU - 2 stamps 33ch with different shade*), designed in the USA and produced by Harrison & Sons security printers in London. After having shipped out to Bhutan the stamps were never issued. The image on the stamps was their most revered saint, Guru Rinpoche (who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan), could not be depicted on a stamp which also advocated the killing of living beings, even mosquitos. On 12 June 1962, Jigme P. Dorji, Bhutan's first Prime Minister announced that the issue would have to be cancelled. Nevertheless, some stamps leaked into the marketplace.

Very rare set!. Mint never hinged. Reduced Price: A few light brownish spots in the gum due to storage (see scan on the back)
